JIM MCILROY has been politically active since opposing the Vietnam War in the 1960s. Jim is renowned locally as a grassroots campaigner from anti-WorstChoices to the Dr Haneef civil rights campaign. Jim spent 2006 in revolutionary Venezuela reporting for Green Left Weekly, and has authored pamphlets in labour and socialist history.

Jim has been a long-time anti-war activist, including the movement against the Iraq war and the anti-nuclear campaign. Now retired from the Australian public service, he was a workplace delegate in the Community and Public Sector Union for more than 10 years. At 61 years of age, he has considerable experience in political organising and journalism, and is committed to transforming the Australian political
system to one based on participatory democracy and people´s power.
